Sweet Treat Trailer

The Sweet Treat Trailer!

Here at The Lions Club of Guernsey, we’re always dreaming up new ways to generate funds for our community projects.

We’re thrilled to introduce our most delicious venture yet: The Sweet Treats Trailer!

This page will document our journey from acquiring the trailer to seeing it at events selling candy floss and popcorn, with all profits going straight back into the community.

The Dream: A Mobile Fundraising Hub

We identified a need for a sustainable, engaging, and fun way to raise funds.

A food trailer is perfect! It can attend summer events – Including the much loved Lions Club of Guernsey Donkey, Christmas fairs, food festivals, and local markets, creating a sweet experience for everyone while generating essential income for our work.

The Acquisition: A Project with Potential

We were delighted to acquire a used food trailer. It’s the perfect size for our needs and has fantastic potential. While it requires some work to get it event-ready, we saw a solid foundation for our mobile fundraiser.

The Challenge: Rolling Up Our Sleeves

Our team of dedicated volunteers didn’t waste any time. We started with a deep clean to assess the interior properly. It was all hands on deck to scrub, disinfect, and prepare the space for its future makeover. We’re committed to ensuring everything meets the highest standards of hygiene and presentation.

The Current Hurdle:

A Specialist Repair

As we began repairs, we discovered a significant challenge. The trailer’s axle requires specialist attention as it is a European specification, not a common UK standard.

This is a complex and essential repair for the safety and legality of towing the trailer on the road. We are currently sourcing the right parts and expertise to get this fixed correctly, albeit at a higher cost and complexity than initially anticipated.

This unforeseen issue highlights the importance of having a secure and accessible base for the trailer while we work on it.

How You Can Help:

We Need a Home for Our Trailer

While we arrange for the axle repair, our most pressing need is a secure, accessible storage location.

We need a space where we can safely park the trailer when not in use, but also where our volunteers can access it to continue:

  • Interior decorating and fitting out.
  • Exterior painting and signwriting.
  • Preparing the equipment for use.

Do you have, or know of, a suitable space? This could be:

  • Secure yard space at a business.
  • Space on a farm or private land.
  • Any other locked compound or area.

Your help in providing a temporary home for our trailer would be an enormous contribution to getting this project on the road.

What's Next?

Once the axle is repaired and we have a storage base, we will:

  • Complete the interior and exterior decoration.
  • Install our candy floss and popcorn machines.
  • Get the trailer certified by the local environmental health office.
  • Book our first event!

Thank you for your support! This project is driven by community spirit, and we can’t wait to see you at an event soon for a sweet treat.
