We know that kindness matters

While much of what we do is intentionally low-key, we also take pride in organizing some of Guernsey’s most prominent and well-loved events, including those highlighted below.

The Donkey Derby

The Lions Club of Guernsey Donkey Derby is one of the island’s most beloved and exciting family events, bringing the community together for a day of fun, laughter, and entertainment. Held annually in August at Saumarez Park, this much-anticipated event is a cornerstone of Guernsey’s social calendar.

The highlight of the day is, of course, the donkey racing! These lovable animals compete to the cheers of enthusiastic crowds, creating a thrilling spectacle. Beyond the races, there’s plenty to enjoy:

  • Rides and games for all ages
  • Food and drink stalls offering delicious local treats
  • Craft and charity stalls showcasing unique items
  • Raffles with exciting prizes

The Donkey Derby is more than just a fun day out. It’s a celebration of community spirit, where families, friends, and neighbours come together to connect and support one another. The event also provides a platform for local businesses, artisans, and performers to shine.

As a vital fundraiser for the Lions Club of Guernsey, all proceeds from the Donkey Derby are distributed to local charities and community initiatives and helps improve the lives of those in need across the island.

Swimarathon

Every October, the Lions Club of Guernsey and Guernsey Round Table, with the generous support of Skipton International, come together to host the Swimarathon—a fun, energetic, and community-driven event that raises vital funds for local causes.

Whether you’re a competitive swimmer or just enjoy a leisurely dip, the Swimarathon is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself while making a difference. Form a team with friends, family, or colleagues and swim as many lengths as you can in an hour—every stroke counts!

Why take part?

🏊 A fun challenge for all – Open to swimmers of all ages and abilities.
💙 Support local charities – All proceeds go to worthy causes in Guernsey.
👫 Team spirit & camaraderie – A great way to bond while doing good.

The Swimarathon is more than just a swim—it’s a chance to come together, get active, and give back.

Winter Wonderland

Each winter, the Lions Club of Guernsey, in collaboration with the Bachmann family and our generous sponsors Specsavers, transforms the garden at Les Ruettes Cottage in St. Saviour’s into a magical Winter Wonderland.

This much-loved annual event is a highlight of the festive season, offering something special for visitors of all ages. Stroll through illuminated trails filled with sparkling lights and enchanting decorations, enjoy the joyful sound of carol singing, and savour delicious treats from our food and drink stalls. Father Christmas also makes an appearance, delighting children and spreading holiday cheer.

The Winter Wonderland is more than just a festive celebration—it’s a way to give back to our community. All proceeds from the event are distributed to local charities, including Autism Guernsey and the Lions Club of Guernsey, supporting their essential work in the island.
